I started CrossFit a couple of weeks after my daughter was born 4 and half years ago.    We got all the equipment we needed to and started out of our garage because the closes box to us was 2 and half hours away.   We were in a smaller farming town and word spread fast that we were doing some crazy workouts in the garage and people were lining up to see what it was about.   We out grew the garage very quickly and just kept moving forward from there.  My husband Luke and I owned our CrossFit gym for about 3 and half years when we decided to sell it and make the move to the Chicagoland area to be closer to family.   I am very excited to be back in the gym and coaching again.  I enjoy getting stronger and fitter but there is nothing more rewarding then helping someone see the potential they have in themselves and watching them do things they never thought they would be able to do.

My first competition was Sectionals (the qualifier for regionals before the open).  It was 6 months after having my second child and I was definitely not ready but enjoyed every minute of it.   I wasn’t going to win; just get out and see the other side of CrossFit.  The great thing about competitions is that win or lose you still learn so much about yourself and that is one of the reasons why I do them.   I have done over 30 competitions and met so many people that have become very good friends.

I started CrossFit in April of 2009.   I got a weight set for Christmas the year before and just went out in my garage and thought I would give it a try.  It was about 9 months before I set foot in an actual CrossFit box.    I lived in front of the computer trying to find all the information I could.   My wife, Bridget and I found ourselves having people in the town call and want to join us when we worked out.  Who would have thought that people would want to come to someone’s garage to workout, but we got quite the group together.  We decided to get our Level 1 and open our own box.  We owned CrossFit Fairfield for 3 and half year until we sold it to a friend so we could move to the Chicago land area to be near family.

I have a competitive personality and have done sports all my life so I took to the sport side of CrossFit real fast.  My first competition, just 9 months into CrossFit,  was The CrossFit Sectional (before there was the open) and it was also the first time I had been in a real CrossFit gym and not just my garage.  I was lucky enough to make it to Regionals that year in Denver CO.   I have been to the CrossFit Regionals 2 times since that year.  The last two years Regionals were special because Bridget and I both got to compete as individuals.  I have learned a lot from competing but I still love the everyday side of CrossFit.  That is where you see the true magic happen.
